If you're visiting Tokyo in the lead-up to Christmas and have a soft spot for Hello Kitty and her friends, there's another reason to add Sanrio Puroland to your itinerary. The indoor theme park in Tama City is getting into the festive spirit with its 2026 Christmas event, Puroland Illumination Christmas, running from November 6 to December 25.

This year's theme is getting ready for Christmas, with visitors invited to help Santa prepare for the big day alongside their favorite Sanrio characters. One of the main attractions is a brand-new 10-minute illumination show called Sweet Sparkle Illumination. Featuring appearances by Hello Kitty and Kiki & Lala through audio, the show combines music, colorful lighting, lasers, and interactive dancing to brighten up the park's central Puroland Village.

There's also a first-ever collaboration with popular Japanese picture book series The Bears' School. Its much-loved character Jackie joins the festivities, with a four-location stamp rally, story-reading sessions, and exclusive collaboration merchandise and food.

Other seasonal attractions include Christmas-themed photo spots, a gingerbread-house-inspired play area for younger visitors, and a special patisserie workshop where guests can create their own sweets with festive decorations.

Of course, no Sanrio celebration would be complete without some shopping. Visitors can also browse limited-edition Christmas merchandise and seasonal food.

For international visitors, Sanrio Puroland offers a fun indoor alternative to Tokyo's usual sightseeing spots, particularly for families traveling with children. The Christmas event is included in the park's seasonal programming, although some experiences may have additional charges.

More information, opening hours, and admission tickets are available through the official Sanrio Puroland website.
