Naeba Dragondola

A scenic ride for autumn color viewing season

Mid-October to mid-November is autumn color season in the mountains. The lush summer greenery gives way to a stunning display of yellows, oranges and reds. It is an amazing show before the white of winter arrives, and autumn draws crowds of hikers and photographers to the region. For those who would like to head into the mountains without the exertion, the Dragondola is a great option. It also offers a great view of the Naeba summer music festival. It is a 5km long gondola that links Naeba Ski Resort to Tashiro Ski Resort. It takes about 20 minutes one-way with the 6 seater cabins carrying you up and down several valleys along the way. The views of the forests below you and the surrounding mountains are fantastic. Once you reach Tashiro you can get out for a walk around, rent a golf buggy, play in the inflatable bouncy castle or kick back in a restaurant with some autumn fare. You can ride in either direction, starting in Tashiro or Naeba, or do a round trip. If you happen to be on the Naeba side for lunch, the Prince Hotel offer and all-you-can-eat buffet for 1,800 yen per adult.

Hanging out in the mountains of Niigata. Arrived by accident and yet to leave. Seem to spend far too much time eating...
