At the beginning of July 2013 during the two-day trip to Kyoto I visited Kyoto University. The university was founded in the late nineteenth century, and it is the second oldest university and most prestigious after Tokyo.
There are 10 departments at the University: legal, pedagogical, philological, engineering, medical, comprehensive studies of human, economic, natural and pharmaceutical sciences, and agriculture.The university is also engaged in research activities.
At the gates of the university stands a tree that grows from the time of foundation of the institution and is symbol of it. This tree can be seen in the logo of the university.
After entering the gate our group got to see cheerleaders greet the university baseball team.
Then we were ushered into the university, where we listened to a lecture about Kyoto and the history of the founding of Kyoto University with other students. Among the students there were many foreigners – Chinese, Malaysian and even one Argentine. Then we walked around the campus. We were surprised by endless number of bicycles. This is probably the most popular means of transport.
At the end of our walk we visited the university museum. The museum's expositions are devoted to three areas: the history of culture, science and technology history. Information about the museum can be found on the website.
