Pokémon through the lens of traditional Japanese craftsmanship

One of Japan’s most talked-about traveling exhibitions is finally heading to Hiroshima this summer, as Pokémon x Kogei opens at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum from July 10th to September 23rd, 2026.

Already a major hit across Japan and overseas, Pokémon x Kogei marks the first time the exhibition has arrived in the Chugoku region. The exhibition brings together the worlds of Pokémon and traditional Japanese craftsmanship, with leading artists using ceramics, lacquerware, metalwork, textiles, woodwork, and other traditional techniques to reinterpret beloved Pokémon in entirely new ways.

Around 100 works will be displayed throughout the exhibition, ranging from delicate tea caddies and kimono-inspired textiles to dramatic sculptures and contemporary ceramic pieces inspired by Pokémon including Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, and Shaymin. Rather than simply recreating characters, Pokémon x Kogei explores how Japanese craftsmanship can express movement, texture, emotion, and storytelling through the world of Pokémon.

Visitors can expect a mix of fun and deeply artistic works, with many pieces inspired by iconic moments from the games, including adventure and evolution to friendship and battle scenes. New artworks will also debut from the Hiroshima venue onward, giving returning fans something fresh to discover.

Alongside the exhibition itself, Pokémon x Kogei will feature artist talks, special gallery events, themed merchandise, stamp rallies, and limited experiences including commemorative photo sessions with Pikachu dressed in a traditional kimono-inspired costume.

The exhibition will also include an extensive merchandise area featuring exclusive Pokémon x Kogei goods and select Pokémon Center items.
