Travelers visiting Nagoya in winter will have a new seasonal food event to add to their itinerary, with the city hosting a festival dedicated entirely to one of Japan’s favorite cold-weather treats: yakiimo, or roasted sweet potatoes.

The Hokuhoku! Yakiimo Matsuri NAGOYA will take place at Angel Square in Hisaya Odori Park over three days, bringing together vendors offering roasted sweet potatoes and a variety of sweet potato-based foods and sweets.

Yakiimo is a particularly popular winter food in Japan, and is known for its soft, fluffy texture, natural sweetness, and distinctive roasted aroma. While the roasted sweet potatoes are the star of the festival, visitors can also expect plenty of creative sweet potato treats, with more details about participating vendors and food offerings to be announced closer to the event.

The festival is designed to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages, making it an easy addition to a family-friendly Nagoya itinerary. The combination of colorful food, seasonal Japanese flavors, and plenty of opportunities for photos should also make it appealing to travelers looking to experience something a little different from the city's better-known attractions.
